AIR7000 Ph1B Piloted Aerial System (RPAS) includes the delivery of facilities and infrastructure to support the acquisition of up to six Northrup Grumman MQ-4C Tritons. The scope of works will be delivered at RAAF base Tindal (NT), including but not limited to maintenance hangars, aircraft aprons, warehousing, high power engine run up area, training support facilities and infrastructure connections to suit.

The accommodation and working facilities at Robertson Barracks and RAAF Darwin were constructed to support the 1,200 US Marines deployed to Darwin in 2014. This project was delivered through the National Program Management Office (NPMO), within the Defence Support and Reform Group. Overall, the project manufactured and delivered 60 modular buildings over a 9 week period.

The C-band radar installation at Harold E Holt Naval Communication Station is a new radar support structure and equipment housing facility. Through thorough design and constructability reviews, Sitzler successfully enhanced program rationalisation and addressed the whole-of-life aspects in consultation with the US Air Force design team.

Sitzler was tasked with designing and constructing the Unmanned Aerial System Flight Test Range (UAS FTR) at Cloncurry Aerodrome for QinetiQ, as part of the Queensland Government’s Drones Strategy. The project included building an aircraft hangar, workshop, surveillance radar tower, range control centre and other facilities. Despite location challenges and COVID-19 delays, Sitzler completed the project ahead of schedule, ensuring unimpeded operations at Cloncurry Airport throughout construction.

The Single Living Environment and Accommodation Precinct (Single LEAP) was a PPP project delivering 918 individual living quarters across Larrakeyah and Robertson Barracks in the Northern Territory. This project was part of an Australia wide commitment to increase ‘on base’ living quarters by 3,500.

The Space Situational Telescope was relocated from New Mexico to a purpose-built facility at the Harold E Holt Naval Base in Exmouth. Sitzler undertook the role of Integrated Managing Contractor for Defence and through the integration of a US design, constructed the new facilities under Australian Standards with upgrades to suit installation in a cyclonic area.

Sitzler was engaged to design and construct a new twin 10 lane 25m Firing Range within Robertson Barracks Close Training Area. Being the first facility within this new complex, the site required all new infrastructure including a new bore, solar and battery power and septic tank. The design of systems was optimised around an offline solar and battery power source.

Sitzler worked closely with Defence stakeholders in developing the design to ensure maximum utility of the project. This included a rubberised floor complete with underfloor drainage to minimise maintenance and maximise the safety of range users.

The facility can be operated at night with adaptive lighting. Extensive earthworks were required to transform an old quarry into the new firing range facility. Through the integration of the design and construction team, Sitzler was able to maximise the use of local sourced fill materials, reducing truck movements on public roads and reducing importation of materials to the site.

Sitzler was the head contractor responsible for the construction of upgrades to the aircraft parking aprons, infrastructure and airfield works at RAAF Base Darwin. Delivering 30,000m² of rigid concrete pavements and associated flexible pavement works also included the upgrading of inground infrastructure including extensive electrical, stormwater, fire, fuel services, aeronautical ground lighting, a new aircraft rinse facility and remediation and removal of significant quantities of buried asbestos and hydrocarbon contamination.

Sitzler was the Head Contractor for the construction of the new and upgraded facilities, infrastructure and airfield works for the introduction of the Boeing P-8A Poseidon at RAAF Base Darwin including the construction of a maintenance hangar to accommodate one aircraft and a co-located support facility. These facilities provide critical mission support, training, maintenance and logistics functions in the establishment of a Maritime Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Response (MISRR) capability for the Department of Defence.
